Guvnor's bad day at the office
The Guvnor sensed it wasn’t going to be his day when news broke that Rite Of Passage would have to forego his hurdling bow having being injured in transit to Leopardstown. His defection opened the door for others and it turned out to be a battle of the maroon and whites in the end as Kings Bastion just got the better of Gates of Rome for County Meath trainer Luke Comer.

The Guvnor ended the day with one withdrawal, a second place and an unplaced.

Favourite backers were rewarded in the second race on the card as Whodoyouthink was a convincing twenty two length winner over Oscar Close and the somewhat disappointing Universal Truth.

Disappointing is also how one would describe the top two in the market for the Juvenile Hurdle – Alaivan and Cross Appeal – and it was the ex Coolmore owned Carlito Brigante who took advantage for new owners Gigginstown House Stud and new trainer Gordon Elliot.

Then, Sizing Europe put another gong to his name when claiming the big race on the card but the question on most minds was what would’ve happened had Captain Cee Bee not parted company with Mark Walsh at the last.

Elsewhere, Bob’s Display returned to something akin to his best form to give Colm Murphy a welcome change of luck and land the handicap hurdle. Show Blessed landed one of the gambles of the day in the Handicap Chase, just seeing off Nina Carberry on Noel Meade’s Jaamid before Dermot Weld rounded off what had been a frustrating day in fine style when Elegant Concorde claimed the concluding Bumper.

Meade had a day to remember elsewhere though as Go Native further enhanced his Champion Hurdle claims when just hanging on from the fast finishing Starluck to give the trainer another win in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton while he looks to have another exciting prospect on hand in Original Option who belied an alarming market drift (7/4 to 5/2) to coast home in the Limerick Bumper and afford young jockey Darragh Bourke his first winner.

In the highlight on the card down south, Michael Hourigan’s enigmatic Dancing Tornado benefited from a number of defections, most notably that of Sports Line, to score by four lengths from the fast finishing River Liane and Oscar Looby at odds of 10/3.

Today's results at Leopardstown have torn the Guvnor's returns to shreds... for the moment: fourteen tips so far; 4 Wins, 4 Placed, 6 Unplaced. Assuming a €10 winning bet on each of his selections, the Guvnor is down €27.20 to date.
