The Guvnor’s Navan Naps – Sat. December 19th.
Subject to 8am inspection

Proudstown Park in Navan rounds off a busy 2009 with their final card before the turn of the year, with the first race of seven getting under way at 12:15.

It might over simplifying matters to say that punters would be well advised to stick to the Meade team, but there’s no doubting that the locally based Noel has several horses with chances on duty throughout the day.

Hollo Ladies is bound to come on from a first outing over timber and may be the pick of those in the opening Maiden Hurdle though with the Guvnor's old pal Dessie Hughes’ string in fine form Curling can’t be discounted and the vibes are seemingly good regarding Paul Nolan’s Far Away So Close as well.

Whatever about the opener, Meade definitely appears the man to beat in the following contest. Thegreatjohnbrowne could hardly have been more impressive when scoring in a recent Naas Bumper – a race during which M.J. Doran, who will again partner the Beneficial gelding in the colours of his father, lost an iron. He will undoubtedly have been well prepared at home (he had a spin over hurdles at Galway where he unseated on debut) and should open his account over hurdles here.

The County Meath theme could very well continue in race number three in the guise of the Pat Reynolds owned and aptly named Halfback. Though the expectation would be that Dessie Hughes’ French import, Rivage D’Or should belatedly get off the mark in the Gigginstown House Stud colours.

Unusually, the Bumper is not the last contest on the card, but the Noel Meade/Nina Carberry combination should take all the beating with Medical Card, second to two useful sorts thus far.

Another local trainer, Gordon Elliot, should take the penultimate contest thanks to Jessie’s Dream, while another Meath native Adrian Maguire – now based in Cork – could claim the finale with the lightly weighted mare Cindys Schindler.

But, in summing up, The Guvnor would suggest that punters ‘Try These Three’:

Thegreatjohnbrowne (12:45)
Medical Card (2:25)
Jessie’s Dream (3:00)

The Guvnor... hoping for a good day's racing at Proudstown...
