Gaelic football: 2007 Marbella Cup
No “Wilting” for the Shamrocks in the Sun

Cavan club Bailieborough Shamrocks are set to hit the sun this Friday 26th to represent Ireland in The Marbella Cup 2007.

The completion, run by the Spanish Club Costa Gales, is in its 5th year. The principal organiser of the completion is Jed O Connor, a Kerry native resident in Spain. The completion will be officially opened on Friday night by Sunderland Chairman Niall Quinn and Kerry legend Eoin “The Bomber” Liston

The Shamrocks, having been narrowly defeated in the Cavan Intermediate Championship semi final, took advantage of their defeat by registering to enter the completion. Former Cavan and Ulster Footballer Gerry Sheridan age 33 states “This is the highlight of my career, an opportunity to go on a break with a great bunch of lads. A fantastic bonding opportunity for the club”

The competition consists of four male teams and two ladies teams from all over Europe. In the male completion the Two Semi Finals are played on the Saturday with the Winners playing the final on the Sunday.

“We see this as another step in development of adult football in the club. Since 1995 club success has been few and far between but 2007 has seen a turnaround in fortunes and the huge effort from the players should not go unrewarded” says team manager Vincent Kelly

A squad of 29 leaves this Friday morning for the sun, departing Bailieborough at 06.30am.
Through the hard work of James Lovett, ONeills have agreed to sponsor the Shamrocks on their journey.

“Its important that a team representing Ireland abroad should look sharp, and we are delighted to supply the team with leisure wear” says Lovett, Sales rep to ONeills.
“The Shamrocks return to action in the County Junior final Saturday 07th of November, so naturally early nights are a certainty” says selector Michael Murtagh
